First Innovation Day of the LIFE CHANDELIER Project in Valderrobres

On Wednesday, January 29th took place in Valderrobres the first Innovation Day in the framework of the LIFE CHANDELIER Project, an initiative co-funded by the European Union through the LIFE Program. More than 70 attendees participated in the event, both in person and virtually, representing the most relevant agri-food sectors of Aragon, including oil, almond, cereal and wine production.

The conference, organized by the Food and Nutrition Cluster of Aragon in collaboration with CITA Teruel, allowed the presentation of relevant experiences in the implementation of circular bioeconomy strategies in the agri-food sector. In particular, the LIFE CHANDELIER Project was presented, which develops an innovative solution for the production of vehicle biomethane from organic waste generated by the agri-food industry in rural areas, with application in the transport sector.

Dr. Paloma Moya, representative of the Food and Nutrition Cluster of Aragon, welcomed the attendees, marking the beginning of a day dedicated to innovation and sustainability. Subsequently, Dr. Marta Barba from CITA Teruel presented the concept of circular bioeconomy, highlighting its importance for innovation and technology transfer in the agri-food sector.

In addition, the AgrifoodTe project (CITA Teruel), focused on the creation of living labs oriented to the valorization of waste from the agri-food industry, was presented. Key partners of the LIFE CHANDELIER project, such as GUCO and Genia Bioenergy, also participated in the event. All this event was possible thanks to the support of the Regional Council of the Matarraña Region and its President, Mr. Fernando Camps, who accompanied us and actively participated in the day.

One of the key moments of the event was the intervention of Mr. Manuel Esteve, President of Grupo Arcoiris, who presented the success story of GUCO in the sustainable management of waste from the livestock sector. His presentation showed how innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand in the management of agro-industrial waste.

To close the day, the attendees had the opportunity to make a technical visit to the biogas plant in Valderrobres. This visit was guided by Mr. Mariano Mínguez from Bioselval and César Casasnovas from Genia Bioenergy, who explained the operation of the plant and its key role in the transformation of organic waste into biomethane.

Finally, all attendees enjoyed a lunch and networking at the Matarraña Regional Council to end the day.

The LIFE CHANDELIER Project is coordinated by the Food and Nutrition Cluster of Aragon, a reference entity in agri-food innovation that promotes strategies for the sustainability and competitiveness of the sector.
