Upcycling agri food waste into rural biomethane

Main objective

The main goal of LIFE CHANDELIER project is to demonstrate the technical and economic feasibility of a novel cost-effective, traceable, and sustainable solution for biomethane production in rural areas as advanced biofuel for transport sector according to the EU standards for automotive fuels from agri-food wastes combination.

Objectives

To develop and commission a demonstrator plant at pre-industrial scale that encompasses the following main features:

Sub-objectives

  • Innovative thermoextrusor system for the pre-treatment process of lignocellulosic agrifood wastes.
  • A small-scale anaerobic digester (100 m3) for co-digestion trials and production of discrete biogas/biomethane flows (<10m3/h)
  • Auxiliary elements (mixing tanks, pipings) for an existing medium-scale anaerobic digester (3000 m3) for co-digestion under optimized conditions and production of moderate biogas/biomethane flows (400 and 10-15m3/h, respectively)
  • Biogas upgrading system based on dry hydrophobic membranes able to process 7-20 m3/h biogas produced at both, the new small-scale and the existing medium scale anaerobic digestors.
  • BioCNG recharging station for HDV propulsion
