LIFE CHANDELIER Showcases Its Advances in Biomethane at IWA AD19

From 9–13 June 2026, LIFE CHANDELIER took part in the 19th IWA World Conference on Anaerobic Digestion (IWA AD19), held in Valencia, Spain. As one of the world’s leading events dedicated to anaerobic digestion, biogas, and renewable gas technologies, the conference brought together researchers, companies, plant operators, public authorities, and other key stakeholders to exchange the latest scientific and technological developments in the field.

Through the participation of Genia Bioenergy, a partner of the LIFE CHANDELIER project, attendees had the opportunity to learn about the project’s objectives, technological approach, and the progress achieved in developing innovative solutions for the sustainable production of biomethane from lignocellulosic agri-food waste.

Throughout the conference, experts from around the world shared insights into anaerobic digestion, biogas and biomethane production, and emerging strategies to advance the circular economy and support the transition towards a more sustainable energy system. In this context, IWA AD19 provided an ideal platform to showcase LIFE CHANDELIER’s latest achievements in the valorisation of lignocellulosic agri-food waste through innovative biomethane production technologies.

A key highlight of Genia Bioenergy’s participation was the presentation delivered by Ana Fernández, entitled “Biotechnological Strategies for the Valorisation of Lignocellulosic Waste through Pretreatment and Co-Digestion in Advanced Anaerobic Digestion Systems.” During her talk, she shared with the international scientific and industrial community the knowledge and results generated within LIFE CHANDELIER, together with findings from other complementary projects focused on the valorisation of organic waste.

The project was also represented through the scientific poster “Circular Biomethane Production in Rural Areas from Agri-Food Waste: LIFE CHANDELIER Project,” which was displayed throughout the conference. The poster provided researchers, industry professionals, and other stakeholders with an overview of the project’s objectives, methodology, and latest progress in developing innovative solutions for biomethane production and organic waste valorisation.

Genia Bioenergy’s presence at the conference was further reinforced by its role as a Bronze Sponsor, enhancing the international visibility of LIFE CHANDELIER through the distribution of promotional materials and a range of communication activities aimed at conference participants.

The event also offered an excellent opportunity to connect with researchers, technology providers, biogas plant operators, and other strategic stakeholders from across the sector. These networking activities fostered knowledge exchange, opened new avenues for collaboration, and further strengthened the project’s international network.

Participation in the 19th IWA World Conference on Anaerobic Digestion reaffirms LIFE CHANDELIER’s commitment to innovation, knowledge transfer, and the promotion of sustainable solutions for biomethane production from agri-food waste. By taking part in leading international events such as IWA AD19, the project continues to encourage collaboration between the scientific community, industry, and public authorities, helping to accelerate the transition towards a more circular, efficient, and decarbonised economy.
