CO2 reduction
GHG emissions in rural areas of Aragon
Aragon produces food raw materials and food for an equivalent population of ~12 million inhabitants. This huge agricultural and livestock sector produces almost 3 out of every 10 tonnes of CO2eq emitted (29.7% of the total), which doubles the emissions of this sector in relation to emissions at national level (Spain). In terms of the GHG emissions attributed to the transport sector, they represent a 23% of the total emissions in Aragon. The limited availability of biofuel recharging stations in Aragon, currently only six stations all of them located in the city of Zaragoza, is one of the barriers that hinders the expansion of the use of low emission vehicles.
The project’s innovative technologies will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80%, making the biomethane production process not only more sustainable but also more economically viable.
